Frequently asked questions

How much does a trip to Singapore cost per day?

Our estimate is about S$140 per person per day on a budget (sharing a room), S$340 mid-range and S$960 for luxury, covering a hotel, food, getting around and a few paid sights. Universal Studios, the Gardens by the Bay domes and the zoos are extras you can add in the calculator.

Is Singapore expensive for tourists?

Hotels and alcohol are expensive, but food doesn't have to be: hawker centre meals cost a few dollars, the MRT is cheap, and many sights are free, including the Supertree Grove light show, the Botanic Gardens and the temples.

How can I save money in Singapore?

Eat at hawker centres, use a contactless card or EZ-Link on the MRT, stay in Chinatown, Little India or Bugis, and drink at happy hours. Tourists can also claim back the 9% GST on shopping over S$100 at participating shops.

Are taxes included in Singapore hotel prices?

Hotels often quote prices 'plus plus', meaning a 10% service charge and 9% GST are added. Check the final total; our hotel estimates include them.

Where do these numbers come from?

They're our estimates, built from the price bands in our Singapore guides, hotel booking sites, reviews and traveller reports, rounded. The Tourist Pass price is SimplyGo's.
